Like To Support Local? Here are 6 New Zealand Businesses I Love (Includes Discount Codes)

I believe the current Covid situation has provided small New Zealand businesses with more opportunities to be seen now than ever before.  When it was near impossible to get supermarket delivery bookings, I turned to other small businesses providing similar items.  I came across a number of bulk food websites, which are great if you're good at planning ahead.

That in turn led to seeking out other small New Zealand businesses for other products.  Not only did it feel good to support small business, I also ended up with some great quality products and saved a lot of money in the process.

Chinga Clothing Men's, Women's and Kid's Clothing mostly made in NZ.  I love these hoodies!  The length sets them apart from other brands and their sizing is size friendly.  I'm a big girl (NZ size 18-20) and comfortably fit their largest straight size (16-18) but they have recently extended sizing to include plus size (up to size 26).  They are a nice thick jumper and they seem to wash up well.  I have had mine since last Winter and it still looks pretty good - minimal fading and no pilling at all.  Compared to hoodies I purchased at the same time, these are far better quality and in an affordable price range.  They currently have half price hoodies, $30 dresses and a whole lot more on sale.  Shipping within NZ is reasonable and they post overseas too.

Threads of Mayhem is a small childrenswear shop in Waihi Beach.  We have enjoyed the quality of clothes and had months of wear without issue.  They often have great seasonal sales which with a little planning you can stock up for the following year.  Our favourite brand is St Goliath which runs from about a size 3 through to size 16.  They offer 10% discount off first order and free shipping when you spend over $99.  They also have a loyalty programme offering store credit.

Revive Cafe offer a huge range of vegan-friendly pantry goods and their website has a sample section of recipes from their cookbooks so you can try before you buy.  You'll find spice blends and nut butters, cookbooks and ready made meals all available via the website.  Free shipping over $35 for North Island orders.  Or if you're local or visiting central Auckland you'll find them at 24 Wyndham St & 33 Lorne St.

Premium Spices  came up in my searches when I was looking for bulk spices but most other websites didn't offer as large a range.  I selected the 5 for $35 pack and it did not disappoint.  The 500gm packs are great for when you do a lot of baking so I stocked up on cinnamon and ginger.  I have a great chewy ginger crunch I will share at some stage.  The flavour in their turmeric (5% curcumin - that's the beneficial part) is far superior to the turmeric I was previously buying.  You'll find herbs, spices, nuts and other pantry staples.  I was a bit bummed I didn't find the discount link before my first purchase but I still feel I got an incredibly good deal.  If you'd like to take up the offer the link is above for $25 off  (Disclaimer - this will give me store credit).  Free shipping over $100

Real Food Direct (formerly Lindstrom Foods) I usually do a bulk buy once a year for pantry staples like dried lentils, chickpeas, flours, popcorn kernels and other baking supplies.  They arrive in compostable packaging with clear windows so if you choose not to transfer into Tupperware it is easy to see what you have at a glance.  Link above includes $10 off  (Disclaimer - this will earn me store credit) - Free shipping over $100.

Kahuku Natural

I came across Kahuku Natural at a local market.  I was sold on their range of bar soaps, with essential oils and names like Rangitoto, Blush and Kowhai.  The liquid hand soap was also great and my hands feel nice and smooth even without hand cream.  They also have a range of DIY products under their m@hi range so you can create your own cleaning products.

Kahuku Natural has a return to store option on their bottles and provide you with a courier ticket to do so (some conditions apply).

As I write this, I'm browsing the website and am finding quite a few new products including pantry staples so it is well worth visiting.  Kahuku Natural offer a loyalty programme and free shipping when you spend over $125.

I would love to get to know more NZ businesses so if you know of any I might like, let me know in the comments section.
